If there’s a fan favorite Star Wars character out there aside from Darth Vader, it’s Obi-Wan Kenobi. He’s starred in some of the most iconic moments in the entire franchise and whether he’s live-action, animated, old, or young, Obi-Wan Kenobi surely brings some of the best Star Wars to both the big and silver screens, which are incredibly rewatchable.
Some of them are fights and others are dialogue scenes, but in general, they’re a portion of the most monumental Star Wars moments. Multiple actors have helped bring the character to life and each added to the scenes in their own way to enhance them, tenfold. Whether it be fan favorite Ewan McGregor, the original Alec Guinness or the iconic voice of James Arnold Taylor.
10 “Another happy landing!”
‘Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith’ (2005)
If there’s anything that Obi-Wan (Ewan McGregor) brings to the table in the Prequel trilogy, it’s some hilarious quips. One of his best comes in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith when he, Anakin Skywalker (Hayden Christensen), and Sheev Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid) crash a large Cruiser in spectacular fashion.
Once the Cruiser smashes into the ground below, the Jedi master quips, “Another happy landing!” This is hilarious not only because of how much it obviously contrasts the event that just happened, but it also implies that Obi-Wan has had other “happy landings” in the past, which makes for an even funnier moment. Everyone loves a good quip from this Jedi.
9 “These aren’t the droids you’re looking for.”
‘Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope’ (1977)
One of Obi-Wan’s (Alec Guinness) most iconic moments and quotable lines is when he pulls a Jedi Mind Trick on a Stormtrooper saying, “These aren’t the droids you’re looking for.” Not only is the moment just generally legendary, but it was the first time audiences got to see the power of the Jedi, beneath the lightsabers and physical action.
The Jedi Mind Trick is one of the most important and popular Force powers depicted in the Star Wars franchise. People reference this quote all the time, not just because it’s a humorous moment of Obi-Wan pulling a fast one, but because it truly is such an important scene and without it, the franchise wouldn’t be the same.
8 Obi-Wan Duels Darth Maul and Savage Opress
‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars’ (2008)
One of the best things about Star Wars: The Clone Wars (and why people love it so much) is that it adds a plethora of depth to character arcs and relationships. Some of the best arcs in the series have to do with Obi-Wan Kenobi (James Arnold Taylor) and Darth Maul’s (Sam Witwer) infamous relationship. If one were to just watch the films, they’d never realize that after Maul murders Obi-Wan’s mentor, they’d have a long-running rivalry throughout the Clone Wars.
Of the numerous fights between the two, one of the greatest is when he faces off with Maul and his Dathomirian Nightbrother, Savage Opress (Clancy Brown). Everyone loves a good 2-on-1 fight. Seeing these two Sith Lords face off against the Jedi Master is a great representation of how truly powerful he is.
7 Obi-Wan Kenobi Faces Off With Darth Vader on the Death Star
‘Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope’ (1977)
When Obi-Wan and Darth Vader (James Earl Jones) face off in Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, there’s a ton of history between the two and the fight has a ton of meaning for those who have seen said history through other Star Wars content. Even for those who saw it when it first released in 1977, the duel meant a lot, given that Obi-Wan informs Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) at the beginning of the film that he knew his father… and Darth Vader killed him.
This also did wonders for the power-scaling of the series. Watching a powerful Jedi Knight get murdered by the Sith Lord showed audiences just how powerful he truly is and why he should be feared by the protagonists and viewers. If they didn’t fear Vader before, they did at that moment. And for those who have seen their history, this is the culmination of a very long story, capping it off perfectly.
6 “Hello there!”
‘Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith’ (2005)
Honestly, there’s no line or moment in Obi-Wan’s history more famous than his iconic “Hello there” quote. It’s been turned into a joke all across the internet and has made it a worldwide phenomenon and turned Obi-Wan into the king of Star Wars memes.
Not only is it a funny moment, but within the scene, it serves as a great introduction.
A lot of Obi-Wan’s humor is dry and this is a great example of that. It’s also a nice representation of what people love about Ewan McGregor’s adaption of the character. Not only is it a funny moment, but within the scene, it serves as a great introduction. He is a charming, witty and soulful guy who can find the light in many situations and make use of it. His charm radiates through this one moment perfectly.
5 Obi-Wan Kenobi Battles General Grievous
‘Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith’ (2005)
The scene that immediately follows his witty, “Hello there” line is an incredible fight between the Jedi Master and the devious General Grievous (Matthew Wood). Surrounded by countless Droids and faced with an enemy who can wield four lightsabers at once, Obi-Wan certainly has his work cut out for him. Not to mention, Grievous uses his top two lightsabers to become propeller blades, constantly spinning.
Obi-Wan Kenobi’s ability to compensate for a lack of three other lightsabers is very smart and includes some great choreography on the filmmakers’ part.
The fight that ensues is epic and filled with spectacle. While facing off with the Droid leader, he also manages to take out a lot of his lackeys as well. The fight takes place over a large area, constantly moving, which keeps the battle between the two very engaging. Obi-Wan Kenobi’s ability to compensate for a lack of three other lightsabers is very smart and includes some great choreography on the filmmakers’ part.
4 Obi-Wan Kenobi Faces Darth Maul One Last Time
‘Star Wars Rebels’ (2014)
While Star Wars Rebels wasn’t as beloved as other Star Wars projects, it’s quite underrated and filled with some of the best moments in the franchise. One of said moments depicts the final confrontation between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Maul on Tatooine. Thanks to a breakdown by Dave Filoni, this moment finally got the recognition it deserved after the subtext was brought forth by the iconic Star Wars creator.
The scene takes place when Obi-Wan has grown older and is now assigned to watch over the young Luke Skywalker on Tatooine. There’s no real fight here, as when Maul attacks his enemy, he’s immediately killed. The moment is a representation of how much Obi-Wan has grown since he began his journey in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. He baits Maul into using his standard move, and uses that to easily take him down. Obi-Wan has grown… Maul has not and, in the end, that’s what truly killed him.
3 Obi-Wan Kenobi Fights Darth Vader on Tatooine
‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ (2022)
In 2022, Disney+ gifted Star Wars and Obi-Wan fans with a solo series for the character titled, Obi-Wan Kenobi. The show depicted the worn Jedi living on Tatooine and finding himself needing to protect the young Leia Organa (Vivien Lyra Blair) as the treacherous Darth Vader and his Inquisitors arrive to hunt him down. The final battle between the Jedi and the Sith Lord is intense, visually electrifying, gripping and emotional.
This acts as the culmination of the plot that began when Anakin Skywalker fell to the Dark Side and provides the moment in which Obi-Wan Kenobi realizes that his good friend truly is gone and has been killed by Darth Vader. It’s emotionally compelling and perfectly sets the two characters up for their eventual meeting in Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope.
2 Duel of the Fates
‘Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace’ (1999)
Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace may not be the most beloved Star Wars film, but it contains one of the best fight scenes in the entire franchise. The Duel of the Fates is well-known and highly praised for a plethora of reasons. For starters, the music is one of the best scores in sci-fi as a whole, bringing the grand feeling and tension of the scene forth and emphasizing it.
It also includes the death of fan favorite Qui-Gon Jinn (Liam Neeson), which forever affects the character arc of the young Obi-Wan Kenobi moving forward. This also births the longtime rivalry between the Jedi and Sith that will last for many years to come. It’s one of the most iconic scenes in all of Star Wars for very good reason.
Two Jedi escape a hostile blockade to find allies and come across a young boy who may bring balance to the Force, but the long dormant Sith resurface to claim their original glory.

1 Battle of the Heroes
‘Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith’ (2005)
There is no scene in Star Wars in general that tops the incredible fight scene between the two best friends, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker. When the Prequel Trilogy began, everyone knew that it was eventually going to end with Anakin’s fall to the dark side, but no one realized how impactful the filmmakers were going to make it. The fight between the two has an incredible score, astounding choreography and wonderful performances from both Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen.
When fans discuss their favorite moments in the franchise, this scene is all over the board. Mustafar serves as the perfect landscape for the battle. Not only is the location a visually engaging sight, but the lava surrounding the two Jedi builds tension. It doesn’t get much better than the Battle of the Heroes and there are plenty of reasons why, but the biggest is how truly heartbreaking it is to see these two friends go at it.
