During the Emmy nominations last year, it was obvious that voters had only seen the Big Three, a.k.a. The Bear, Succession, and Beef. It’s disappointing (albeit very common) that the same few shows get the spotlight, usually the buzziest ones of the lot. This isn’t a new problem; it’s a persistent one.
It’s not that Shōgun and The Bear aren’t deserving, but the repeat nominations (The Morning Show, The Crown, and Only Murders In The Building also nabbed several nods) take the conversation away from deserving, notable TV shows. AMC’s Dark Winds, Peacock’s We Are Lady Parts, Prime Video’s Expats, FX’s Justified: City Primeval, Max’s Tokyo Vice, and HBO’s The Righteous Gemstones deserve to be talked about. Our TV conversations can’t just be limited to a few options, not when the number of streamers (and their output) is increasing. Let’s hope that in 2025, voters expand their viewing library for once.
