Alongside new anticipated series, many of our favorite shows are returning with new seasons. Ser Duncan ‘Dunk’ the Tall
Game of Thrones may have ended on a disappointing note, but its latest spin-off, House of the Dragon, renewed audiences’ interest in the franchise by being absolutely mesmerizing and intriguing. Now, with A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, we’re drawn back into the ever-shifting world of Westeros, where alliances are made and broken all the time. It follows the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire, Egg, as they journey through the land and encounter various challenges and enemies in a landscape dominated by the Targaryen dynasty.
The spin-off promises to focus on the origin stories of some of Westeros’ most iconic characters and show what the world was like prior to the events of the original series. Fans eagerly waited for another installment in the epic saga that is Game of Thrones, and this one brings gritty political intrigue and complex characters into the mix. It’s expected to be more intimate and refreshing. It’s based on George R.R. Martin’s novella, Tales of Dunk and Egg, and stars Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell in lead roles.

‘One Piece’ (Season 2)
As a long-running anime series, One Piece has received immense love. The Netflix version is a live-action adaptation of the manga series of the same name by Eiichiro Oda, and it’s turned out to be a roaring success as well. The plot is fairly similar, with Monkey D. Luffy and his crew, the Straw Hat Pirates, setting sail on the Grand Line while pursuing Luffy’s dream of finding the ultimate treasure and becoming the King of the Pirates. Along the way, he meets allies and enemies in an equal capacity.
One Piece Season 2 will bring the Straw Hat Pirates back, with higher stakes and more epic battles. After the conclusion of the previous season, where the crew faced several formidable foes and uncovered jaw-dropping revelations, the new chapter is set to bring in new crew members, new locales, and new adversaries. Netflix’s adaptation features breathtaking action, unforgettable twists, and incredible action, and Season 2 is something we’ve been waiting for far too long.

After that cliffhanger Season 3 ending, one thing was certain: The White Wolf’s journey is far from over. The Witcher is one of Netflix’s most successful flagship fantasy series. It centers on the epic saga of Geralt of Rivia, a gruff and enigmatic monster hunter-for-hire, as he journeys the Continent and finds himself embroiled in political intrigue, dark forces, and a certain consequence of his past options in the form of Ciri. Season 4 promises to delve deeper into Ciri’s character and deliver a thrilling and emotionally poignant chapter that will leave fans breathless.
Building upon the critical acclaim and devoted fanbase earned by the first two seasons, The Witcher Season 3 went all out with its world-building and character drama, but failed to stick the landing. With Henry Cavill saying goodbye to the series and Liam Hemsworth stepping into the role of Geralt, there’s anticipation for a better run. Kim Bodina is also set to depart the series. Regardless, what’s interesting is that the coming chapter will focus solely on Freya Allen’s story of becoming a fearless warrior, with Hemsworth’s Geralt acting as a foil to her story.

‘Wednesday’ (Season 2)
Three years after the viewership-shattering premiere of its first season on Netflix, Wednesday returns with its delightfully macabre adventures. Based on the iconic character from Charles Addams’ works and created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, the series follows the gothic Wednesday Addams as she acted as a deadpan sleuth uncovering supernatural mysteries at Nevermore Academy. At the same time, she navigated family drama, new friendships, and trouble from old enemies.
Season 1 ended on a major cliffhanger and while the series was renewed for a second season back in 2023 itself, little was known about its release. Jenna Ortega and the series’ director, Tim Burton, recently collaborated on Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, which only added to the anticipation. With the return of Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams and Wednesday’s vibrant roommate Enid Sinclair, played by Emma Mayers, the new chapter is likely going to be worth the wait and filled with sinister delights.

Castlevania
Netflix has had a great run with fantasy TV shows not just in the live-action arena, but also in the adult animated landscape, and Castlevania is an ideal example. Its success led to the development of Castlevania: Nocturne, a sequel to the same and based on the video game series by Kanomi. Set during the French Revolution, it centered on Richter Belmont, a descendant of Trevor and Sypha, and his adoptive sister Maria Renard, as they work together to thwart the plans of a powerful and ruthless vampire.
Castlevania: Nocturne was just as dark, destructive, and delirious as the original series. After the gripping conclusion of Season 1, which saw the rise of a threat and the emergence of champions, the stage is set for an even more intense and captivating struggle for the Belmonts to save humanity from going extinct. The action sequences, stunning visuals, and rich character development, as well as the return of fan-favorite voices, make the season highly anticipated for fantasy enthusiasts.

Percy Jackson & The Olympians
Fans of Rick Riordan’s works have had it hard with movie adaptations because of how far they strayed from the source material and rushed with their storytelling. When news about a live-action television series created by Riordan with Jonathan E. Steinberg for Disney+ arrived, fans were skeptical. Percy Jackson and the Olympians, however, turned out to be a success due to its engaging storytelling and expansive mythological world-building.
The first season saw twelve-year-old demigod Percy Jackson being accused of stealing Zeus’ master lightning bolt and he raced against time to restore order to Olympus. Season 2 raises the stakes as Percy returns to Camp Half-Blood to find his world turned upside down. His friendship with Annabeth is growing, he has a Cyclops brother, and the camp is under threat from the forces of Kronos. It goes without saying that Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 is going to be a thrilling and epic adventure.

Moving on to Prime Video’s beloved fantasy projects, one that stands out is The Wheel of Time, which has been consistently delivering magic, drama, and adventures for two seasons now. Based on the book series of the same name by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson, it follows Moiraine Damodred, a member of the Aes Sedai, as she randomly picks five young individuals from a village and takes them on a quest, believing one of them is prophesied to either save or end the world.
Season 3 will pick up after the tumultuous events of Season 2, which saw Rand grappling with his destiny as the Dragon Reborn, while Moiraine and the Aes Sedai come face-to-face with powerful adversaries who want to manipulate the One Power for various destructive purposes. Rosamund Pike, Daniel Henney, Zoë Robins, and Madeleine Madden are set to reprise their roles in the next chapter, which will also feature some new faces. The fantasy genre thrives gloriously in the series, and it’s obvious that there will be greater challenges, new revelations, and the opportunity to dive deeper into the lore of the books in the upcoming season.
