The Rings of Power Star Thinks Galadriel & Sauron Share ‘Cosmic Connection’

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2 will see Galadriel and Sauron’s journey of light and dark continue following the shocking events of Season 1. The new season will open with Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) seriously affected by Hallbrand and his betrayal after his reveal as the Dark Lord Sauron. The dynamic between Galadriel and Sauron (Charlie Vickers) is the main throughline of the series, an emotional tug of war between light and darkness in Middle-earth. To that extent, Galadriel herself believes there is a deep, psychological connection between the two iconic characters.

During San Diego Comic-Con, Vickers said that he believes there is a deep relationship between the psyche of their characters in Season 2: “I think they’re connected, if not by proximity, then by their psyche.” Now, Clark has discussed this quote with GamesRadar, pointing out the “cosmic connection” between Sauron and Galadriel, which will exist long after the events of the series.

I’d agree with him, I think there is. They’re both magical, powerful beings, and I think there is something lonely to existing in that kind of sphere that they both are in. But yeah, there is some sort of cosmic connection, which I’ve heard Charlie mention a few times. I was like ‘Nice, I like that’. Yeah, and it will go on for 1000s and 1000s of years.”

The first season spent a lot of time developing the personal relationship between Galadriel and Hallbrand aka Sauron. In fact, the turning point of their fractured friendship served as the climax for the entire show. The second season of The Rings of Power directly follows up these events and poses a new dynamic between the two characters, one that may not see them share the same physical space all that often.

The Rings of Power Season 2 Promises a New Dynamic Between Sauron & Galadriel

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2 returns audiences to the same version of Middle-earth that was introduced last season, but the show will feel a lot different this time. Sauron is now operating in the open, fighting and manipulating his way back into power. However, even though Sauron and Galadriel are now on a collision course, that doesn’t mean the second season will include the same level of interaction they had last. Vickers explained to Inverse that, despite their distance, Sauron is still intent on turning Galadriel to his way of thinking, once again mentioning the cosmic connection between them.

There is definitely that element of this cosmic connection, that their proximity doesn’t mean that he doesn’t think about her. He needs to prove her wrong, prove to her she made the wrong decision. They’re definitely on a collision course in that way. He’s more determined to achieve his goal because of the rejection.

The second season of The Rings of Power delves into murkier waters as Middle-earth heads towards war and chaos with Sauron’s ascent into power. With the identity of the Dark Lord exposed, the conflict reaches another high, and his dynamic with Galadriel evolves further as both characters realize their potential. As Clark previously teased, “The mortal enemies hate each other even more than before, and they’re looking even better than they ever did.”
