Boston Celtics big man Kristaps Porziņģis shared a photo Saturday on social media showing Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla and French soccer legend Thierry Henry talking shop.
The photo, which was taken in the Celtics’ locker room, appeared to depict Mazzulla and Henry drawing up plays together:
Mazzulla was named Celtics head coach prior to the 2022-23 season, and he has enjoyed enormous success since then.
After leading Boston to a 57-25 record and a trip to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2023, the Celtics had an NBA-best 64-18 record last season and won a championship, beating the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Finals.
The 47-year-old Henry knows a thing or two about winning championships as well, earning a UEFA Champions League title and two La Liga titles at Barcelona, plus two Premier League titles at Arsenal.
Henry was also part of the French national team that won the 1998 FIFA World Cup and finished as the runner-up in 2006.
After a spectacular playing career, Henry got into managing, serving in that role at Monaco from 2018 to 2019 and with the MLS’ Montreal Impact from 2019 to 2021.
This year, Henry managed the French men’s national team at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris and helped them win a silver medal.
Three Celtics players returned from France with Olympic gold in tow, as Jayson Tatum, Jrue Holiday and Derrick White represented Team USA.
The Celtics enter the 2024-25 campaign as odds-on favorites to repeat as NBA champions, although Porziņģis will miss the start of the season as he recovers from an ankle injury that required surgery.
