An off-duty police officer has died after she was pulled from the water of a popular Perth beach this morning.
Emergency services were called to Trigg Beach about 10.30am over reports of a diver in distress.
After a search by multiple emergency services, a woman in her 40s was located and brought to shore.
Despite first aid efforts, the woman died at the scene.
“It is with a heavy heart we confirm the diver is a sworn member (First Class Constable) of the WA Police Force, who was off duty at the time,” WA police said in a statement.
“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are extended to her family and colleagues.
“Attending to life and death situations is a daily reality for first responders but incidents involving one of our own are especially difficult for our officers.
“Our Health, Welfare and Safety Division will provide support to those impacted by this tragedy. The family of the deceased has requested privacy during this incredibly difficult time.”
The death is not being treated as suspicious.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
