Warning: Spoilers for Dragon Ball Daima episode #5Dragon Ball Daima has now revealed a trait that’s possessed by all members of the Demon Realm’s Majin race, making them far more dangerous than it initially seemed. This new ability raises some important questions about the series’ new characters, however, and could impact Daima‘s story moving forward.
The Majin seem to be the most plentiful variety of being in the Demon Realm, as well as one of the most oppressed. It’s stated by Panzy that Majin typically live for around 1,000 years, and seem to age pretty slowly, since she claims to be 82 years old. The term “Majin” in Japanese can mean either “demon person” or “magical person,” and it turns out that this ambiguity is quite fitting for the residents of the Demon Realm, as they seem to qualify as both.
The Majin’s Ability Could Be A Problem for Goku
Goku Has Struggled Against Magical Enemies in the Past
In episode #5, Panzy reveals that all Majin are capable of using at least some magic, which she demonstrates by levitating a rock for a brief moment, although it takes her much effort. Goku is impressed by the display and grows excited. Goku has seen magic before, of course; in fact, he’s had to contend with it on many occasions, such as with Fortuneteller Baba, and in the past, it has given him considerable trouble, since magic operates completely independently from the Ki abilities that he’s familiar with.
If magic truly is so widespread in the Demon Realm, that could be a significant problem for Goku’s group moving forward. Depending on the types of magical abilities that Majin may possess, they could prove to be surprisingly tricky for Goku to fight. Magic can be used for a wide range of things, from sealing techniques like the Evil Containment Wave to defensive moves like Babidi’s magical shield. Goku doesn’t really have any way to subvert an enemy’s use of magic, so any sufficiently skilled opponents he may encounter here in the Demon Realm could have a massive advantage.
What Does This Magic Mean for Glorio?
Glorio’s Magical Ability is Not Revealed
If all Majin possess some skill with magic, that would suggest that Glorio, too, is capable of using some degree of magic. This may provide an explanation for how Glorio is able to fly without knowing about Ki, for example. While Glorio hardly seems the type to have extensively practiced his magic, he may still have some surprising tricks up his sleeve, as befitting his cool and competent characterization.
It feels as if it’s only a matter of time before Glorio’s magical abilities are revealed, and they could come in incredibly handy depending on the exact circumstances. It’s interesting that Glorio has ignored what seems to be a commonplace ability among his people, suggesting that perhaps he has some level of disdain for magic. Exactly what’s going on with Glorio and his connection to magic is something that only future episodes of Dragon Ball Daima can reveal.
