Major Tigers coup as star prop snubs Dragons, signs up on hefty deal

The Wests Tigers have won the race for in-demand prop Terrell May, following his shock departure from the Sydney Roosters.

The 25-year old, who was told by the Roosters to seek opportunities elsewhere just months after signing a two-year contract extension, will join Benji Marshall’s rapidly burgeoning ranks on a three-year deal reportedly worth $2 million, with an official announcement imminent.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, May told St George Illawarra coach Shane Flanagan on Monday morning of his intentions to choose the Tigers, with the Dragons having heavily courted him as well.

The report claims a key reason for May’s choice was to play alongside Samoa teammates Jarome Luai and Sunia Turuva, who have both joined the Tigers for 2025 after featuring in Penrith’s 2024 premiership.

Having failed to secure deals for Corey Horsburgh and Kobe Hetherington and after losing Stefano Utoikamanu to the Melbourne Storm, May’s acquisition is a major boost for the Tigers in their bid to rise up the ladder following three consecutive wooden spoons.

May played 53 first-grade games for the Roosters since making his debut in 2022, and is regarded as a strong chance to break into NSW’s State of Origin team in coming years.
