The new live-action “Snow White” adaptation has not been without its controversies. Whether it’s Peter Dinklage coming forward to denounce the whole project as a “backward story” or tensions amongst the cast regarding the recent Israel-Palestinian conflict (star Rachel Zegler coming forward as pro-Palestine while her co-star Gal Gadot supports Israel), the feature has come under intense scrutiny. Nevermind the fact that since the teaser premiered in August, it has amassed over a million dislikes on Youtube. In part due to totally unjustified fan outrage over the casting of Latina Zegler in a role historically deemed White.

Instead of “skin as white as snow,” which is the way the Brothers Grimm described their heroine in the original 1812 fairy tale, this newest remake recalls another version of ‘Snow White’ where the character survived a snowstorm as a baby. The King and Queen name her ‘Snow White’ for her resilience. Somehow resilience seems to be the appropriate label for Zegler’s take on the character. Since that is precisely what she’s had to display in these many months leading up to the movie’s premiere in March.
“Snow White” stars Rachel Zegler as Snow White and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen. Additional cast includes Andrew Burnap, Ansu Kabia, Dujonna Gift, Martin Klebba, and Colin Michael Carmichael. The movie is directed by Marc Webb. Screenwriters are Greta Gerwig and Erin Cressida Wilson. The film will also feature original songs by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. Callum McDougall is executive producer, while Russell Allen and Marc Platt are producers.
The iconic story follows a young princess exiled by her wicked stepmother into a dangerous forest. She soon befriends a group of seven dwarf miners who make her part of their household.
