‘Bluey’ Is Coming to Theaters To Save Us From This Terrible Year

My kids are playing with magnet tiles on the kitchen floor. I’m looking at them, thinking about how much I love them and lamenting that I’ll only be able to protect and prepare them for so much. Numerous things will happen in their lives that will be out of my control. That’s good! They need to be able to tackle situations without me. That’s just life and has little to do with how much of an absolute dumpster fire our world feels like at this current moment.

2024 has been filled with death and despair. Human rights are being stripped away at an alarming rate. Tens of millions of Americans decided they were done hiding their love for an unrepentant narcissist and criminal. It is hard not to assume that the worst is yet to come. However, among all the terrible news, a hero is coming to theaters to lift our spirits; A kind, inspiring figure covered in blue and instantly recognizable to children and adults alike.

Bluey is coming to theaters, people! As announced today by Disney and BBC Studios, the show about a loveable family of dogs is making its way to the big screens. A feature-length film will arrive in 2027. That feels like a long way away, but it’ll be worth the wait. Bluey isn’t just one of the best kids’ cartoons, it’s one of the best cartoons that exists (and it’s good for kids to watch).

My kids probably won’t go to a movie theater for another year (maybe less). They’re good at paying attention, but I don’t want to push them into a public space until they’re ready (for them but also others). I would break that rule if Bluey came out next week or even next month. I’m confident that it will be worth the boys’ time, even at this young age.

I love going to the movies and have been worried that the first movie for the boys would be too over their heads or intended for them while talking down to them. There’s a lot of bad children’s programming out there. Bluey will be different! Bluey will help instill a love of movies in them that will last a lifetime! Soon, they’ll be driving themselves there and leaving me behind and I won’t care because that’s better to think about than literally anything else going on in the world! Bluey, baby! Give me that sweet sweet distraction!!

🚨BLUEY MOVIE! THIS IS NOT A DRILL! YOU HAVE TWO YEARS TO PREPARE YOUR CHILDREN!🚨
