If your victory on today’s Connections puzzle is in question, you will want to do everything you can to salvage it before it goes badly. Today’s puzzle has some tricky words that want to be in multiple categories, which can make it more difficult for you to win the day. There are also a group of words that are not what they seem to be when you first look at them. This can compound in a difficult time for you if you are not careful as you seek to decipher the puzzle.
The NYT Tiles puzzle is a fun matching game. It has a fun gameplay loop that allows you to connect layers of tiles to each other to clear them off the board. It doesn’t matter what order the layers come off, just that they do. Getting all of them in one big streak will help you generate a big score. If you want to do your best, you will need to connect as many as you can in a row without making a mistake.

Today’s puzzle is more about separating out what doesn’t go together due to some of the words that want to be in multiple categories. Some words look different than what they are. To sort out what’s what, you could use some hints to help you guess what the categories are.
- One category is about things that are put together to make something else
- One category is about different kinds of the things that make up paragraphs
- One category is about four types of things that a certain group of people would be most interested in
- One category is about four words that look like something other than what they are

This one felt fairly simple once I saw it but I did have to solve the next category first. This is mainly due to COMPOUND, which is a type of sentence and arguably the one used the most. However, a compound sentence is still one of the other types of sentences as well, which makes it fit into the category a little less well than it does here. Once I had this category sorted out, it did feel like this was the best place for it anyway, but it could belong in the other one as well.

STATEMENT |
The main issue with this one was getting COMPOUND out of the mix, although for whatever reason I did have a bit of a time trying to find the final word that wasn’t compound. I think I was just tired, which is definitely a factor in how well you do in Connections every day. Luckily, I wasn’t so tired that I missed it altogether, and I was able to finish this one up without too much trouble. It’s easier once you know what you are looking for anyway, and I knew I was looking for some kind of sentence.

This one is a little harder if you are not sure what you are looking for, but PHARMA and CRYPTO were what tipped me off to what the category might be. I didn’t specifically have “bros” in mind, but I was in the right general direction to know what was going on. It wasn’t hard to add FINANCE back in, but getting TECH in there was a little harder. However, none of the final four words were close enough to confuse me to the point of guessing wrong, it just took a little extra time.

GROWN |

This one could be very confusing. Fortunately, the words in this category didn’t really conflict with what was happening in the other categories, leaving me with four words that didn’t really make sense together at the very end of the puzzle. This is one of the best places to be in a Connections game, and it was satisfying to click them all and know that it was the right solution. Then I was able to move onto a new puzzling day.
