Daisy Edgar-Jones Reveals Whether She Would Return for a Twisters Sequel

Universal has scored another hit with Twisters, the long-awaited sequel to the 1996 hit Twister, raking in nearly $125 million worldwide in its opening weekend. That’s welcome news for Hollywood, which has been suffering a down year at the box office. The success of Twisters means talks of another sequel have already begun, and star Daisy Edgar-Jones has offered her take. The London native admits to developing a fascination with tornadoes, and with the right script, sounds like she’s willing to go storm chasing across Oklahoma all over again.

In an interview with Variety, Edgar-Jones discussed her experiences on the Twisters set, which inspired her to join real storm chasers to see a tornado in person, after filming wrapped. She never got to see a real funnel, so signing on for a Twisters sequel has piqued her interest. When asked about the possibility of a sequel, she said:

Definitely. I love that world of storm-chasing.

There are some conditions with Edgar-Jones’ enthusiasm. The 26-year-old is picky about the roles she accepts, and that practice has served her well in her young career. Edgar-Jones would agree to a sequel only if the story was right, and jokingly considers how the title would progress for a third film.

“I’d have to read a script first and see what’s going on…I think it would be fun to see what they could do next. I just don’t know what they would name it — would they just have to keep adding s’s to the end of

Little details exist about the film, but Helen Hunt is expected to reprise her role as Jo, with the film likely to pay homage to the late Bill Paxton.

Director
Lee Isaac Chung

Twisters is directed by Lee Isaac Chung, who earned two Oscar nominations (including Best Director) for 2020’s Minari. He then directed an episode of Star Wars: The Mandalorian, before signing on for Twisters, taking over for original film director Jan de Bont. The film has been praised for striking a balance between CGI spectacle and characters with appealing depth. Edgar-Jones and co-star Glen Powell provide the emotional center to the film, which doesn’t rely on callbacks or cameos to win over moviegoers.

Twisters Sees Daisy Edgar-Jones’ Blockbuster Career Take Flight

In Twisters, Daisy Edgar-Jones plays Kate Cooper, a meteorologist trying to work her way back into the field after a traumatizing event. The film is more of a thematic sequel than a direct one, and relies on the outstanding cast to win over moviegoers. Thankfully, connecting with an audience is something Edgar-Jones has done her entire career.
