PGA Tour finally announces new sponsor for Signature Event

The PGA Tour announced on Tuesday the name of the new sponsor for its annual Charlotte event.

Truist Financial Corporation, Quail Hollow Club and the Tour signed a seven-year agreement to become the next title sponsor.

It will no longer be the Wells Fargo Championship but the Truist Championship.

Quail Hollow will continue to be the host venue with the exception of 2025. It will remain one of the eight Signature Events on the PGA Tour’s schedule.

Next year’s tournament will be May 5-11 at the Philadelphia Cricket Club’s Wissahickon Course. Quail Hollow will have to skip a year because it will be the location of the PGA Championship. It will be the second time the iconic Charlotte-based course will host a major.

This switch is one of the latest sponsorship moves the Tour has endured this year.

The Honda Championship switched to the Cognizant Classic. One of the annual Texas events, Byron Nelson, signed with CJ Group, a Korean food company, as its title sponsor.

Kentucky’s annual event changed its name from the Barbasol Championship to the ISCO Championship.

Not to mention, the PGA Tour added two more events to the schedule — the Myrtle Beach Classic and the Black Desert Championship.

The Myrtle Beach Classic is an opposite-field event to the newly named Truist Championship. They hosted the Q at Myrtle Beach, where some of the biggest names in YouTube Golf competed against professionals for one spot in the field.

The Black Desert Championship will make its PGA Tour debut later this fall, on Oct. 10-13 in Ivins, Utah.

There are many changes happening around the PGA Tour and its schedule. Since the launch of LIV Golf and the astronomical money surrounding the Saudi-backed league, the PGA Tour has had to add incentives to keep players.

From the PIP program to the eight Signature Events that have massive purses and 700 FedEx Cup points to award, it is part of the ever-changing landscape of golf.
