The 2024 horror film Tarot makes it to the Netflix United States top 10. Tarot is a slasher horror film about a group of friends who violate the rules of Tarot readings, inadvertently unleashing an evil within one of the cursed cards. Tarot is co-directed by Spenser Cohen and Anna Halberg, and features a leading cast including Harriet Slater, Adain Bradley, Jacob Batalon, Avantika, Humberly Gonzalez, Wolfgang Novogratz, Olwen Fouere, and Larsen Thompson.

Now, Tarot has become a success on the Netflix top 10. Tarot came in at no. 5 on Netflix’s United States top 10 for the week of July 29 to August 4. Topping the charts this week above Tarot were Trolls Band Together, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie, and Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. It was the first week that Tarot managed to make it on the Netflix top 10. In addition to reaching top 10 status in the U.S., Tarot was also in the top 10 in Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan.

Tarot’s Unusual Path To Success Explained

Tarot Received Poor Reviews But A Good Box Office

Unlike some Netflix hits, Tarot‘s path to the top 10 was not paved with strong reviews. Tarot‘s reviews are horrible, with the film holding a 19% on Rotten Tomatoes. Though audiences liked the film better than critics, Tarot still got a rotten score with audiences, bringing in a 59%. The horror film’s detractors noted Tarot‘s laziness, lack of personality, and overall lackluster and incoherent nature. Occasional critics deemed the film worth watching, but those voices were few and far between.

That said, these dismal reviews did not end up equating to doom for Tarot‘s box office. The movie opened to $6.5 million and ended up taking home $49.1 million worldwide. Tarot was a relatively low-budget horror film, with an estimated production budget of around $8.25 million. This total made it such that by the time Tarot‘s box office was added on, the film had made back its budget more than five times over.

Here are the six worst and unexplainable decisions the characters make in the 2024 horror film, Tarot, which is now streaming on Netflix.

Tarot‘s Netflix success is just another piece of the film’s unusual path to success. Of its box office haul, $30.3 million came from overseas, so it is possible that Tarot will end up making the global top 10 list, which it failed to do this past week. Even in the absence of global top 10 success, Tarot has still shown partial global reach with its top 10 status in three South Asian countries. If Tarot continues on this streaming peak path, the film will further its unconventional success trend.
