Crystal Palace co-owner Steve Parish has warned Newcastle that they will need to pay ‘superstar money’ to land Eagles defender Marc Guehi, while adding that ‘nobody has got to the valuation yet’ for the centre back.
The England defender, 24, is thought to be Eddie Howe’s preferred central defensive target ahead of the new season.
And Mail Sport understands that Newcastle have tabled a third bid for Guehi of £55million – which could rise to £60m if certain payment add-ons are achieved.
This paper revealed on Friday that Howe’s side had seen their second offer, believed to be around £48m plus add-ons, rejected by the Eagles, with Parish and Newcastle sporting director Paul Mitchell negotiatiating over the transfer.
While Parish and Eagles bosses are mulling over Newcastle’s latest offer, the figure is expected to fall below Palace’s minimum valuation for Guehi, which sits at around £65m.

But Eagles co-owner Steve Parish has warned the Magpies that they will need to pay ‘superstar money’ to land their star defender

The English defender’s current deal with the south London club will expire in 2026, while Palace are willing to offer Guehi – who joined from Chelsea back in 2021 for £18m – a new contract.
Speaking to Sky Sports on Tuesday, Parish delivered an update on the situation, lauding Guehi as one of the best up-and-coming defenders, before implying Newcastle need to dig into their coffers a little more in order to force Palace to consider a deal.
‘Nobody has got to the valuation yet. If you want a superstar player you need to pay superstar money,’ the Palace co-owner said.
‘This is a player we love a lot. If we start the season with him we’ll be a better team, no doubt.
He added: ‘It’s not near the point where we have to make a decision. We’ll cross these bridges when we come to them.
Guehi impressed for England during their Euro 2024 campaign, featuring in all but one of their matches in Germany, only missing out due to a suspension.
Parish reflected on the 24-year-old’s brilliant form over the past few seasons.
‘He’s homegrown. He’s in most people’s team of the Euros. An excellent lad, we love him at the club. And if somebody wants to make that otherwise, they’ve got to make it really difficult for us and at the moment that’s not the situation we’re in.
Parish also stated that ‘nobody has come close to the valuation’ for the England star pictured
Parish (pictured) added that Guehi had ‘not put any pressure on the club, whatsoever’ over a potential deal to move
‘Marc is as decent human being and footballer as you could ever possibly meet. We all know the situation and we don’t need to be having discussions about it.
‘Marc is absolutely loyal to Crystal Palace and Marc wants to progress his career. Of course he does. And if the right opportunity is there – and it’s right for us – it might be something that he might be interested in. But he’s certainly not putting any pressure on the club, whatsoever.’
While Guehi missed 12 Premier League matches at the back end of the 2023-24 season, he has impressed massively as Palace’s backline over the past few years.
His performances have garnered him the attention of several clubs around Europe, with Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus having all been admirers of the England defender.
Guehi signed for Crystal Palace in 2021 from Chelsea for £18m and has gone on to attract the attention from plenty of suitors around Europe’s top five leagues
He also impressed at Euro 2024, featuring in all but one of England’s matches in Germany, helping the Three Lions advance to the final
Newcastle, meanwhile, could look elsewhere for a new defender – with there being an acceptance at the club that they need to sign a new centre half.
AC Milan’s Malick Thiaw is understood to be on Newcastle’s shortlist – but appears reluctant to leave the San Siro.
