Moment Dad Caves, Decides to Keep Foster Kitten for Himself: ‘You’re Mine’

One of TikTok’s latest foster fails has gone viral, and it involves a black cat and a dad who finally caved in to his charm.

A viral video on the platform earlier in August, under the username bradymedearis, shows the dad chilling in the sitting room and playing with his new cat, one of his wife’s foster cats, which he recently decided to adopt.

He can be heard saying as he pets the cat, “This one’s going to stay,” later adding, “You’re mine.”

His son, who posted the clip, then asks him for clarification, and that’s when the dad revealed his intention to keep the cat.

“Do I have to pay the $60 adoption fee?” he asks his wife, who kindly agrees to waive the fee for him.

“Dad caves and officially adopts one of mom’s foster cats,” says a caption shared with the heartwarming clip.

Black cats are about 50 percent less likely to be adopted than other cats, according to a Psychology Today article, and there are three main reasons behind this.

The first is that people think black cats are less friendly than other felines, even though this belief has no scientific basis and black cat owners swear their kitties are the sweetest in the world.

The second reason is superstition. Black cats have long been associated with bad luck in popular culture, but this is also just a myth. Last but not least, some people avoid adopting black cats because they feel that they’re not able to read their emotions.

Each year, 6.3 million pets enter U.S. shelters, which is an average of 17,260 a day, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The number of dogs and cats taken in by pet shelters hit 46,807 during January 2023, an increase of 1,744, compared with January 2022, 24Petwatch’s Shelter Watch Report found.

Around 920,000 surrendered animals are euthanized every year. Shelters are striving to minimize euthanasia rates by promoting adoption campaigns, spaying and neutering programs and behavior rehabilitation.

The video quickly went viral and has so far received over 715,400 views and 128,000 likes.

One user, Pipermolly1234, commented: “The cat distribution system snuck in thru a loop hole.”

Ange With an “e” wrote: “I near died when he asked if he had to pay adoption fee.”

Min Kyu’s Kat wrote: “Stop bullying him. Let him love his kitty. ‘This one stays’ is so sweet.”

Krystl added: “That cat knowing exactly what he’s done by attaching himself to dad.”

Newsweek reached out to bradymedearis for comment via TikTok commentsa and could not verify the details of the case.
