Absolute Wonder Woman Really Just Debuted DC’s Coolest Weapon in History

Warning! Spoilers ahead for Absolute Wonder Woman #4!When facing a monster that’s larger than life, Absolute Wonder Woman pulls out the only weapon in her arsenal big enough to take it down. Diana has pulled out every trick in the book to take down the Tetracide, but her only chance at victory comes in the form of her powerful, new sword.

In Absolute Wonder Woman #4 by Kelly Thompson and Hayden Sherman, Steve Trevor takes Diana to meet Etta Candy’s sister so Wonder Woman can perform a blood ritual to repair her arm. After regaining her limb, Wonder Woman heads out to stop the Tetracide.

Recognizing the Athena Blade as the best way to defeat the Tetracide all along, Diana pulls it out and performs a spell on it to make it grow considerably. Absolute Wonder Woman increases the sword to the size of a tower and cuts straight through the Tetracide, ending the kaiju’s reign of terror in Gateway City.

The Athena Blade Powerful Enough to Cut Through the Fiercest Monsters

Thanks to Darkseid’s energy permeating throughout the world, the Absolute Universe is an Earth where turmoil and strife are the guiding principles. But out of the darkness came Wonder Woman, who in this world was raised in Hell instead of Paradise Island. Raised by the witch, Circe, Diana grew to be a capable witch as well as a warrior and when Gateway City was invaded by a monster known as the Tetracide, Absolute Wonder Woman sprung into action. Unfortunately, it was a beast that truly challenged Diana and withstood nearly every magical weapon she managed to throw at it.

Everyone highlighted Absolute Wonder Woman’s sword when she first appeared with it, largely due to its size. But while its standard form was already big enough, Diana is capable of making it the size of a building (and wielding it as gracefully as she would an épée). While Prime Diana is no slouch when it comes to weapons, even magical ones, she can’t modify or utilize magic to enhance her armaments the same way Absolute Wonder Woman can. The real question is what is the limit to the Athena Blade’s size and is there anything she can’t kill with it?

There Are Few Threats the Athena Blade Couldn’t Stop

While the Absolute Universe is still relatively young, there are undoubtedly some threats lurking in the shadows that could rival the Tetracide. But for right now, there doesn’t appear to be anything in this world that could survive the Athena Blade, especially if Absolute Wonder increases its size to rival that of a city block. Of course, magic always comes with some kind of limitation or drawback, but it remains to be seen what that would be when Diana pulls out this kind of move. For now, Absolute Wonder Woman’s Athena Blade remains the deadliest and most effective weapon around.
