AFL coach Michael Voss has been involved in a dramatic citizen’s arrest after a car flipped onto its side in Melbourne.
Police and emergency services were called to the scene about 8.45am on Barton Street in Hawthorn.
9News understands the two teenagers have been arrested following the incident.
Voss, who is the current coach of Carlton and was a triple premiership captain with the Brisbane Lions, is believed to have tackled one of the offenders after witnessing the crash while picking up his morning coffee at the Barton Milk Bar.
“It was a bit of action… I was hoping to be on a couple of days break but it’s all good here,” Voss told 9News.
“I have spoken to the police but everyone is safe and healthy and that is all that matters.
“Hopefully it will get dealt with quickly.”
The incident unfolded in front of a crowd of onlookers and schoolchildren walking along the busy street.
David Williams was driving his children to school when he came across the crime scene.
“I was driving and found a car on its side as I was driving past which was unusual,” he told 9News.
“The police turned up and I saw them arresting a young kid not sure what was going on, but a big knife.
“It’s a bit scary, not what you want to see when you are driving your kids to school.”
Williams said he believed Voss had “chased and tackled” the offender to the ground.
“It’s fairly brave if that’s what he has done,” he said.
