AFL legend Kevin Bartlett misses iconic photo as Collingwood champion Scott Pendlebury joins 400-club

Collingwood champion Scott Pendlebury will become just the sixth player in VFL/AFL history to reach the magical 400-game milestone this weekend.

The 36-year-old was joined by other members of the exclusive 400-club on Wednesday for an iconic photo shoot.

Games record holder Brent Harvey (432), Michael Tuck (426), Shaun Burgoyne (407) and Dustin Fletcher (403) all flanked Pendlebury for the photo.

But Richmond legend Kevin Bartlett (403) was the only member of the club not present.

The 77-year-old is reportedly unwell and unable to make it.

Pendlebury paid tribute to the other greats of the game for welcoming him to the club.

“Great to have my family, mum, dad and brothers, (wife) Alex and my kids to enjoy this today,” he said.

“Having the other guys that are in the 400 club to turn up today, it’s amazing they have taken some time out of their day to come in and welcome me to the 400 club.”

Pendlebury admitted “he didn’t feel comfortable” sitting up there with the legendary players.

“It’s pretty surreal to be honest,” he said.

“I think late in Boomer’s (Harvey) career, I called him old because he was 36 and still playing … I remember playing with Shauny in the Australian team against Ireland in the International Rules and just being in awe of how good of a player and teammate he was. Playing against Fletch and Boomer, they are legends of the game.

“Doesn’t sit comfortably with me sitting up there with those guys, I’m extremely humbled those guys turned up for me today to pay tribute.”

Pendlebury will play on next year, which could take him to touching distance of the all-time record.

But he’d need to keep playing into 2026 to pass Harvey.

“Depends on how he goes next year, if he has a year like he did this year, then he potentially goes again. I’ll shake his hand if he gets there because I know how hard he’ll have to work,” Harvey said.

More to come …
