We knew it was only a matter of time, but it appears we now know who will be bringing us the first major Luigi Mangione documentary.

According to Variety, Alex Gibney is already developing a Luigi Mangione documentary. For those unaware, Mangione is the person who murdered the United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson. For nearly a week, a manhunt was conducted trying to find the killer, only to have him be recognized at a McDonald’s. But the truly interesting part of the whole situation is how the internet has grown to love Mangione, seeing him as a hero for targeting one of the biggest health insurance companies.

While we already know a lot of the particulars of the case, it’ll be interesting to see how Gibney takes on the Mangione case. As mentioned, he’s a bit of a cult hero right now. Before the crime he’s alleged to have committed, Mangione was his high school’s valedictorian and eventually graduated from an Ivy League university. Reports claim that he suffered from excruciating back pain and that’s what drove him to commit the murder. But again, this is still an ongoing news story, so we don’t have all of the information, as of yet.
Gibney is no stranger to big documentaries. His most recent films include “Wise Guy: David Chase and the Sopranos,” “In Restless Dreams: The Music of Paul Simon,” “Boom! Boom! The World vs. Boris Becker,” and “The Forever Prisoner.”

It’s unclear when we might see this new Mangione documentary debut. Obviously, this is a news item that a studio would hope to capitalize on sooner rather than later.
