Premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival, “The Line” has been described as a frathouse thriller, which obviously has intriguing implications about the dogmatic loyalties often expected in these peer groups. The feature debut of director Ethan Berger, “The Line,” stars Alex Wolff (“A Quiet Place: Day One”) as a scholarship student desperate to break free from his working-class background and increasingly seduced by fraternity life. He is torn between a romance with a classmate (“The Little Mermaid” star Halle Bailey) outside of his social circle and the manipulative scheming of his frat president (“Thunderbolts*” actor Lewis Pullman). As the hazing of new pledges gets pushed to dangerous places during the inevitable “hell week,” Wolff’s student character finds himself in a perilous game of ambition and loyalty.

The filmmaker Ethan Berger wrote and produced the 8-part mini-series “More Than an Athlete” for ESPN, chronicling the rise of LeBron James, Mav Carter, Rich Paul, and Randy Mims. His debut narrative, “The Line,” premiered at Tribeca in the summer of 2023.
