Americans for Prosperity super PAC launches battleground Senate ad blitz

Americans for Prosperity Action, a super PAC affiliated with the Koch network of political advocacy groups, is launching a slate of new ads backing Republicans across multiple Senate battleground races, spending $8.75 million on a campaign focused largely on issues like the economy, inflation, and immigration.

With mail ballots already being mailed out in dozens of states, AFP Action is spending $1.5 million to boost former GOP Rep. Mike Rogers in Michigan, $1.25 million on behalf of Tim Sheehy in Montana, and $2 million each for Bernie Moreno in Ohio, Dave McCormick in Pennsylvania, and Eric Hovde in Wisconsin.

“The next 28 days are going to be 100% committed to talking to as many people as we can via the doors and the phones to convince them that our candidates are the right choice,” said AFP Action senior adviser Tim Golding.

With party control of both chambers of Congress up for grabs in November, the group has spent about $60 million on election advertising already in 2024, according to FEC filings.

Americans for Prosperity Action backed Nikki Haley for president in 2023 but has focused its efforts since then on promoting conservative down-ballot candidates through digital advertising, door-knocking, phone-banking and election mailers. The group is not investing in efforts to promote Donald Trump this fall.

Emphasizing the cost of living while underscoring Moreno’s business experience, an Ohio ad asks, “Do we want a politician or do we want someone who knows how the economy works? Bernie Moreno gets it.”

The Michigan ads, which are launching on the same day as the first Senate debate there, tie Democratic Rep. Elissa Slotkin to the Biden administration while highlighting Rogers’ Army and law enforcement experience.

With less than a month until Election Day, AFP has knocked on more than 165,000 doors and made more than 225,000 phone calls statewide on behalf of Rogers in Michigan, the group said.
