What’s next for Amy Adams after the world premiere of “Nightbitch” at TIFF this weekend? Well, Taika Waititi‘s “Klara And The Sun” and “At The Sea” will likely both get theatrical releases next year, but after that? Deadline reports that Adams will star in 20th Century Studios‘ comedy “Lazy Susan,” about a group of moms who form a rock band. Sound like an obvious Amy Adams vehicle to anyone else? Thought so.

“Bridesmaids” writer Annie Mumolo and “Moneyball” scribe Stan Chevrin team up to pen the upcoming film, based on the real-life story of The Lazy Susans, a mom-rock band from Boston that kicked off their career during the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2022 Boston Magazine article “For Those Moms About To Rock” will be the pair’s main source; TEG+‘s Vivek J. Tiwary and Jack Leslie optioned the article to get the project started. As for who will direct the picture? There’s no one attached to helm the film yet, but Adams and Stacy O’Neil will produce through Bond Group Entertainment.
Adams and O’Neil also produced “Nightbitch,” Marielle Heller‘s adaptation of Rachel Yoder‘s 2021 novel. After Heller’s latest has its TIFF world premiere in two days, it hits theaters on December 6 courtesy of Searchlight Pictures. Then “Klara And The Sun” and “At The Sea” will be Adam’s releases next year. Waititi already wrapped filming on his sci-fi pic, based on Kazuo Ishiguro‘s novel, but “At The Sea,” a drama about a woman who returns to her family’s beach home after her career falls apart, is still filming. Expect official theatrical release dates for both projects soon.
Adams will undoubtedly be the star of “Lazy Susans,” but Mumolo and Chevrin deserve their flowers too. Mumolo notched an Oscar nod for co-writing “Bridesmaids” and went on to star alongside Kristen Wiig in “Barb & Star Go To Vista Del Mar,” a movie she also co-wrote. Other story credits include David O. Russell‘s “Joy,” and she recently starred alongside Anne Hathaway in the Prime Video rom-com “The Idea Of You.” As for Chevrin, “Moneyball” remains his main claim to fame, but he also wrote the screenplay for 2020’s “Clifford The Big Red Dog,” a film that got lost in the shuffle amid the COVID years.
So when should Amy Adam fans expect “Lazy Susans” in theaters? Well, the project needs a director first, but Q1 or Q2 2026 is a good bet. Stay tuned for news on who’ll helm the project and Adams’ co-stars.
