The Toronto Blue Jays are reportedly looking for help in the infield in free agency. Bo Bichette struggled mightily in 2024 and his contract expires at the end of the 2025 season.

One of the top names on Toronto’s radar was Milwaukee Brewers free agent shortstop Willy Adames. But Adames recently agreed to terms on a deal with the San Francisco Giants. The deal is reportedly worth $182 million over seven years.

This leaves the Blue Jays to pivot to a different infielder. Chris Landers of FanSided recently suggested the Blue Jays should pursue Houston Astros free agent infielder Alex Bregman. Bregman is projected to sign a four-year, $119 million deal, per Spotrac.

“Now that Adames is off the board, the list of Blue Jays targets got narrowed down to one: Bregman is the only infield option remaining who can come even close to Adames’ impact offensively, and he’s now a necessity if Toronto wants to field a team capable of competing with the likes of the New York Yankees, Baltimore Orioles, and Boston Red Sox in the AL East next year,” Landers wrote.

Bregman is the next best infielder on the market, but he wouldn’t be the shortstop replacement Toronto is looking for. Instead, the Blue Jays would play Bregman beside Bichette.

Bregman would be an expensive add, but if the Blue Jays miss on Juan Soto, they’ll have plenty of money to spend. Though Spotrac projects Bregman to sign for under $120 million, his real contract will likely be for upwards of $150 million.
