Body of male swimmer found in waters off Newport Beach

The body of a swimmer has been found in water off Sydney’s Northern Beaches.

The man, aged in his 50s, is believed to have been swimming at Newport Beach when police were contacted by a member of the public who raised concerns for his welfare about 9.50am on Sunday.

Police, Surf Life Saving NSW, PolAir, Marine Rescue and a Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter all joined in a search for the man.

His body was found in waters nearby around 11.30am and is yet to be formally identified, according to police.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
