Jameis Winston’s positive attitude appears to be rubbing off on his Cleveland Browns teammates.
Winston was thrust into the starting role after incumbent starter Deshaun Watson went down with a torn Achilles in Week 7. In his first start in Week 8, Winston showed that he was up to the task in a 29-24 win over the Baltimore Ravens.
Winston went 27-of-41 for 334 yards and three touchdowns in the victory and appears to be fully in command of the offense. That was supported by wide receiver Jerry Jeudy, who noted that Winston’s ability to motivate is helpful.
“He gets you locked in for sure,” Jeudy said, per Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN. “He gets you turnt. He gets you hype. He’s always going to have a little funny saying in between that gets you joking around and makes sure that you can have fun with this as well.”
Jeudy had five catches for 79 yards in the Week 8 win. It was his best game of the season, and Cleveland will hope that Winston can help unlock the 25-year-old’s potential in Kevin Stefanski’s offense.
While Winston’s performance was a huge push for Cleveland, the team still has a lot of work ahead of it. The Browns are currently 2-6 and sit in last place in the AFC North. While Winston should provide a spark, the team will hope the positive momentum can stay for a bit and help the team climb back into the playoff race.
Cleveland will face the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 9.
