Cardiff target Manchester United defender Fish

Cardiff City are keen to land Manchester United defender Will Fish.

The Bluebirds are hopeful a move for the centre-back will be completed this week.

There are reports a deal has already been agreed between the two clubs.

Fish, 21, has been on the books of Manchester United since he joined their academy at the age of seven.

In the last two seasons, he has had loans spells with Scottish Premier club Hibernian, featuring in their European campaign.

Fish went on United’s pre-season tour of the USA only to be injured against Liverpool, but has now recovered and appears to be on his way to Cardiff, who have been admirers for some time.

The arrival of Fish would underline a busy few days in the market for the Bluebirds, with the transfer window closing at 23:00 BST on Friday, 30 August.

Cardiff have agreed the transfer of centre-half Mark McGuinness to Championship rivals Luton Town in a deal which could reach £10m.

They are also in the process of signing Norwegian under-21 defender Jesper Daland from Belgian Pro League outfit Cercle Brugge, for a fee of around £3.5m. Daland is having a medical in the Welsh capital.

Cardiff have conceded seven goals in their opening two Championship games, and after the 5-0 defeat at Burnley, manager Erol Bulut said he was hopeful of making signings this week.

“We are not finished with transfers, we will try to make a few more,” he said.
