CBS Sets ‘Watson’ for Post-AFC Championship Game Leadout

CBS has scheduled Watson, a medical drama in the world of Sherlock Holmes and with Morris Chestnut as Dr. John Watson, to premiere after the AFC Championship game on Jan. 26, 2025.

Giving the prized leadout slot to the series set six months after the death of Watson’s friend and partner, Sherlock Holmes, will come before Watson begins airing in its regular time period starting Feb. 16. The medical mystery drama from CBS Studios also stars Eve Harlow, Peter Mark Kendall, Ritchie Coster, Inga Schlingmann and Rochelle Aytes.

Watson will also stream on Paramount+ on Jan. 26, 2025, with the start time to hinge on the wrap for the post-game coverage. The drama centers on Dr. Watson resuming his medical career as the head of a clinic dedicated to treating rare disorders after the death of Holmes.

The CBS drama is inspired by the characters from Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes mysteries. Moriarty (who killed Holmes) will be a prominent character in the series that the TV network says features a “modern version of one of history’s greatest detectives as he turns his attention from solving crimes to solving medical mysteries.”

Elementary showrunner Craig Sweeny wrote the first episode and serves as showrunner and executive producer. Chestnut, Sallie Patrick, Larry Teng, Sharon Moalem, Aaron Kaplan and Brian Morewitz also executive produce.

Sweeny’s Elementary ran for seven seasons and more than 150 episodes with Jonny Lee Miller as Holmes, Lucy Liu as Dr. Joan Watson and Natalie Dormer as Jamie Moriarty. Like Watson, the show was produced in house at CBS Studios.

The series is distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution.
