“The Place Beyond The Pines” director Derek Cianfrance returns to theaters next year with his first film since 2016: the true-crime pic “Roofman.” And THR reports that Cianfrance has the film’s lead cast lined up now, too. But what’s “Roofman” about? Based on a true story, Tatum stars as a former Army Ranger and struggling dad who resorts to robbing McDonald’s restaurants by cutting holes in their roofs (hence the film’s title). But after getting arrested, he escapes from prison and starts a new life hiding out in a toy story, falling in love with a single mom and two daughters. His chance at redemption can’t last, however, as it all hinges on one final robbery…
Along with directing, Cianfrance co-writes the script for “Roofman” with Kirt Gunn. Producers on the film include Lynette Howell Taylor, Jamie Patricof, and Duncan Montgomery. “Roofman” is a Paramount Pictures and Miramax production, part of the the two’s first-look deal.
Tatum has had a busy 2024, with roles in “Fly Me To The Moon,” “Blink Twice,” and “Deadpool & Wolverine.” Along with “Roofman,” he also has the thriller-drama “Josephine” on the way. Dinklage has had a lot of roles this year, too, starring in “Unfrosted,” “The Thicket,” “Brothers,” and “Wicked,” with “Wicked Part Two” and “Lear Rex” up next. As for Dunst, she starred in Alex Garland‘s “Civil War” earlier this year.
“Roofman” hits theaters on October 3, 2025. Stay tuned for more details.
