Olivia Wilde stars in director Gregg Araki’s upcoming film I Want Your Sex as artist Erika Tracy, who convinces a young Elliot, played by Cooper Hoffman, to be her “sexual muse.” Charli XCX will also reportedly appear, and although the exact details of her role are unclear, Wilde says she’s a fan, and she’s excited to meet and work with her
“We’ve texted and I love her,” Wilde told Variety. “She’s so inspiring. I am all for this explosion of female power in music. It is just such a thrill to be an audience member, and I can’t wait to go see her show.” Charli just started her Sweat tour with Troye Sivan.
Wilde said she “wouldn’t dare” give Charli acting advice. “I mean, if she asks, of course,” she explained, but added, “She’s been [performing] since she was a young teenager, I believe. She’s spent a lot more time on stage than I have, and I’m sure she knows exactly what to do.” She’s right—Charli first came on the scene in 2008, when she posted videos on the internet and rose to indie fame, not unlike this year’s other favorite pop star, Chappell Roan. Her debut album, True Romance, came out in 2013, which was also when she shot into the stratosphere of pop music with the single “I Love It” featuring Icona Pop.
“Her audition was also incredible. So good. I wrote to her, ‘Of course, you’re also a brilliant actress,’” Wilde added.
The film begins production in October, which is also when Charli’s Brat remix album comes out. Perhaps I was wrong about Demure Autumn?
