Charlie Woods hits hole-in-one to put him and Tiger in lead at PNC Championship

Charlie Woods picked a heck of a time for his first career hole-in-one.

The 15-year-old Woods, playing with his father Tiger in the PNC Championship on Sunday, hit a 7-iron from 178 yards out on the par-3 4th to within a few feet, then watched it bounce into the cup. The ace put the Woods duo in the lead at 17-under-par during the second and final round of the parent/child event.

As the gallery erupted, Charlie looked to his father with a shocked look, before Tiger wrapped Charlie in his arms.

“You’re buying,” Tiger later told Charlie, as they waited for their playing partners, Bernhard Langer and son Jason, to finish the hole.

“I’m broke,” Charlie responded.

The Woods have played in the event for the last few years, as Charlie matured from a precocious kid to a teenager with high-level ball speed. They are looking for their first win, in Tiger’s return since September back surgery. Tiger said earlier this week that it was up in the air whether or not he would be able to compete, but he always remained hopeful he’d be able to play again with Charlie.

“He beat me for nine holes, has yet to beat me for 18 holes yet,” Tiger said. “That day is coming, I’m just prolonging it as long as I possibly can. But we just have so much fun going out there and competing and playing.”

It’s seen as a positive sign for Tiger’s 2025 prospects that he’s not riding in a cart and has walked the course three straight days.

The PNC Championship is not an official PGA Tour event but features some of the game’s current stars and even more of its legends from both the PGA Tour and LPGA. Nelly Korda, Vijay Singh, Lee Trevino, Annika Sorenstam and Gary Player are also headlining the 20-team field.

The second round is being played in a scramble format, leading to very low scores.
