A poll released after the presidential debate found the words that respondents feel most and least describe Donald Trump.
The poll, conducted by YouGov between September 10 and 11, gave respondents a list of words to describe Trump, and the word that the most people—54 percent of respondents—agreed upon to describe the former president was “rude.”
The only other term that half of respondents agreed on was “old,” which 50 percent of the people polled believed described Trump.
In contrast, only one percent of respondents said that Trump’s opponent, Kamala Harris, came across as “old.”
“Rude,” and “old,” were the only terms that half or more respondents agreed on, and many other terms on the list stood in contradiction from one another.
For example, 45 percent of respondents described Trump as “tough,” but 46 percent described him as “reckless.”
Some 38 percent of people also described Trump as “weird,” a term that has been thrown around frequently this election since Tim Walz popularized the term while running to be Harris’ vice presidential pick.

Additionally, 42 percent of people described Trump as “bold,” and 42 percent of people described him as “patriotic.”
Only 15 percent of people described him as “religious.” However, that was more than Harris, who was only described as “religious” by seven percent of people.
Trump being seen as marginally more religious by the electorate than Harris may factor into the election as, according to a recent Gallup poll, 45 percent of Americans saw religion as “very important” to their lives.
The word that people felt least described Trump was “cautious,” with only nine percent of poll respondents seeing him as a “cautious” candidate.
The same poll saw Harris as winning the debate, with 55 percent taking that viewpoint. It also asked participants who they believed was the most qualified to be president. In answer to that question, 47 percent of respondents said Trump, while 50 percent said Harris.

The poll also showed that although a small majority of respondents see Harris as more qualified to be president, and they believe Trump to be “rude” and “old,” they trusted Trump more in the policy areas of the economy, crime, veterans, immigration, inflation, taxes, national defense and foreign policy.
How voters believe their candidate will tackle the issue of inflation is key to the election, as a Pew Research poll in 2023 found that 65 percent of voters see inflation as a “very big problem.”
