The Bureau of Meteorology’s official Christmas Day forecast is still a few hours away – but it’s looking like December 25 could be a hot one around the country, with rain and storms in places.
With just a week until Christmas, the Bureau of Meteorology and Accu Weather already have some long-range predictions for whether Christmas will bring rain, hail or shine.
There is a wide range of forecasts for Christmas and Boxing Day across the capital cities, from sunshine, scorching heat and storms.
Here’s what the weather is forecast to look like on Christmas Day in each city.
Christmas Day in Sydney is forecast to be humid and sunny with slight cloud cover. Temperatures are expected to reach a maximum of 26 degrees.
There is a small chance of rain and only a 1 per cent possibility for thunderstorms in the afternoon for Sydneysiders.
The chance of rain and thunderstorms is expected to pick up by night with the chance of rain rising to 77 per cent and the chance of thunderstorms now 18 per cent.
Boxing Day is forecast to reach a slightly higher top of 29 degrees, but will be mostly cloudy and humid, with showers in the morning.
AccuWeather forecasts a top of 28 degrees, but an earlier prediction of high cloud cover has now been modified to a forecast of a sunny day.
There is unlikely to be any rain on December 25.
AccuWeather has now forecast a surge in heat on Boxing Day, with a top of 36 degrees.
It’s forecast to be a scorcher in Brisbane on Christmas Day.
Temperatures are expected to hit 29 degrees but it could feel like 31 degrees according to AccuWeather.
It’ll be humid with periods of clouds and also sunshine.
Temperatures will drop to 19 degrees by nighttime with clear skies.
Boxing Day will reach 30 degrees but it is expected to feel more like 34 degrees.

Christmas Day in Australia’s capital will be a warm day at 29 degrees.
It’s forecast to be mostly sunny throughout the day with a small chance of rain.
The temperature will drop to 12 degrees with rain likely in the evening.
December 26 is looking warmer, with a top of 31 degrees.
Perth, Western Australia
It’s looking like a mostly pleasant and sunny day in Perth this Christmas.
The temperature is forecast to be 24 degrees, with some evening rain, according to AccuWeather.
Boxing Day will be similar, although with some rain in the morning.
Adelaide, South Australia
Adelaide is predicted to be hot and sunny.
It’s forecast to reach a whopping 33 degrees on Christmas Day before dropping to 22 degrees in the night.
Boxing Day in Adelaide is forecast to be even hotter at 34 degrees, with some clouds.
Darwin, Northern Territory
Christmas Day will be humid and wet for Darwin.
Tops of 35 degrees, but it will feel closer to 41 degrees.
Morning showers and a thunderstorm will break up a mostly overcast day. The humidity and thunderstorms will continue throughout the evening and night.
Boxing Day will be just as hot and humid, with a thick cloud cover, a couple of showers and a thunderstorm in the morning.
It’ll likely be a lot cooler in Hobart with a top of 22 degrees forecast in Tasmania’s capital on Christmas Day.
There will be a bit of cloud cover to shield from the sun and a little rain in the afternoon.
Boxing Day is expected to he hotter, topping out at 27 degrees.
