An Adelaide couple got a fright when they came home from work early this morning to find a koala asleep in their bed, with their pet dog also asleep just metres away.
Francielle Dias Rufino told 9news.com.au that when she got back to their Rosslyn Park home about 12.30am she found a new furry friend had made its way not just into their house, but into her bed.
Francielle, who moved to Australia from Brazil with her husband Brunno two-and-a-half years ago, said she screamed out to her husband in Portuguese.
“I was so nervous that I forgot my English,” she said.
She said their dachshund cross beagle was asleep in his dog bed, metres from the sleeping koala.
“He made a new friend!” she said.
The couple believe the koala ventured into the house through their dog door.
”The doors and the windows were locked,” she said.
In a video taken by Rufino, the koala can be seen glancing at the couple before it climbs up a bedside table and returns to the bed.
She said all the animal rescue groups she called were not open, so her husband used a blanket to encourage the koala out the front door.
The frightened animal became a little aggressive and tried to bite Brunno.
“Or maybe he wasn’t happy because we woke him up,” Rufino laughed.
She said she was a lover of the animals and the visit was “a very nice surprise”.
“He was so cute. I love koalas,” she said.
“He can come back anytime he likes.”
