Davis Thompson Was Forced to Change His Wedding Date; Heart-Breaking Reason Behind His Unexpected Marriage Plan Explored

” Just seeing my wife. It just means a lot,” said an emotional Davis Thompson after winning the 2024 John Deere Classic. After clinching what was an incredible victory over a talented and tough field of golfers, he was asked about the reason behind his state of mind. Interestingly so, the golfer’s answer was his wife Holly Grace Robinson Thompson, whom he couldn’t help but marry much earlier than was planned.

It was the start of 2023. The two lovebirds were engaged to each other and were originally planning for a wedding on December 16. But as fate would have it, the decided date was bumped up to early April and then subsequently to May 27. It was done so for his soon-to-be wife’s mother who was battling cancer back then.

The two soulmates just had one month to plan everything. From a new baker to a new band, and florist, and even asking her bridesmaid friends to go rogue for their dresses, the golfer, his fiance, and all of their friends and family planned the “perfect” wedding. Grace, thus, managed to spend an extra month with her mother before she passed away on July 8, 2023.

“It was as perfect as it could have been!!!” exclaimed Davis Thompson’s wife on an Instagram post, “We were able to be married and enjoy about one more month with my mom on earth. It was the least I could ask or hope for considering the circumstances.” But then, what did they do on December 16, the day on which they originally planned to get married?

Fast forward six months from the date of their wedding, the two decided to enjoy their honeymoon. The golfer’s soulmate shared the same in her Instagram post recounting the whole affair as she said, “We have endured extremely high highs and devastatingly low lows. We are blessed that God has chosen to strengthen and test our marriage so early on.” Regardless, she sure did manage to spend an extra six months with the PGA Tour Pro, supporting him all the while and helping him card his first PGA Tour win!

The 25-year-old topped the leaderboard at TPC Deere Run with a score of 28-under 256. The victory also helped him rake in a winner’s cut of $1,440,000 from the total $8 million prize pool. He was able to do so by dishing out figures of 63-67-72-64 over the four rounds of play at the par-71, 7289-yard course while beating the likes of Michael Thorbjornsen, Luke Clanton and C.T. Pan (at T2) by four strokes.

But his moment of the day was spotting his wife after the win. ” I love her so much and so thankful she was able to make it,” divulged the golfer when asked about his reaction following the triumph. “Yeah, I mean, I just tried to stay present all day. When that putt finally went in, big sigh of relief.” The golfer can finally rest easy for the week seeing as how he clinched his first-ever triumph on the men’s circuit. Take a bow, Davis Thompson!
