Gabriel Moreno can’t catch a break.
The Arizona Diamondbacks catcher suffered a strained left groin injury during Monday’s game against the Cleveland Guardians, the team announced.
The 24-year-old went down hard after beating out a groundball and limped off the field. He was subsequently removed from the game in the second inning.
Before being forced to the sideline, Moreno hit a solo home run to left field. This extended the Diamondbacks’ early lead to 2-0 in the top of the first inning.
If Moreno is forced to miss time with injury, Jose Herrera could be next in line for catching duties.
This isn’t the only injury the former Blue Jays player has endured lately. Last week, Arizona manager Torey Lovullo revealed Moreno was nursing a sore left wrist after being hit by a ball. He sat Sunday’s game against the Pirates, which resulted in a 6-5 win for the Diamondbacks.
Moreno has had a solid showing in the MLB this season, with a .262 batting average, five home runs and 41 RBIs through 85 games.
