WOMEN have been left in shock after realising they may have been using pads wrong for years.
As you know, many sanitary towels come with the option of wings or no wings – and these help secure it to your knickers.
However, it can be frustrating if the sticky adhesives end up sticking together round the back.
This can mean it is very tricky to detach the pad from position without ripping it off in a stress.
Thankfully one internet user has shared a genius solution which seems very obvious in hindsight.
One person took to X to upload a video showing their easy hack in practise.
When you’ve removed the pad from the wrapper, make sure you hang onto the little piece of paper that covers the wings ready for sticking.
Instead of sticking the wings straight to your underwear, you can stick it onto the paper.
Many people took to X – formerly Twitter – to share their amazement at the hack.
One person confessed: “Oh.. so I’ve done it wrongly all my life?? Oh.”
A second said: “Me after watching this video. Been doing it wrong all along.”
A third commented: “Wait, that paper is for that? Wow.”
And one added: “Over 10 years of experience, and I get to know I was doing it wrong.”
Meanwhile, just when you thought you’d heard every last trick in the book to keep your wardrobe smelling fresh and clean – along came this hack.
A cleaning influencer, whose TikTok account @jusivince_cleaning has over 200,000 followers, has revealed how she uses sanitary towels and perfume to achieve long-lasting results.
The bizarre but brilliant technique sees the cleaning fan spritzing a perfume of her choice onto two sanitary towels.
She then uses the sticky backs to place them in and around her closet, including on the top and the sides.
Once all stuck down securely, you’re good to go and will have a fresh smelling wardrobe for weeks to come.
Explaining why she swears by it, the cleanfluencer said it “smells so good” as others said it also saved money on buying fragrance sheets.
She explained: “Some of you are asking if it works. The answer is yes. For how long? It depends on the perfume used.
“[My one] Zwitsal fades very quickly so I have to do this almost weekly. When I use the essential oils of laundry parfum, it smells good for weeks.”
Shedding further light on the method, @jusivince_cleaning told her followers that you have to remember to stick the sanitary towels in “softly” so that they don’t ruin the inside of your closet.
She explained: “Someone said it damaged her closet, stick it softly. I hope it works for you too.”
When heavy periods could be something sinister
WHEN it comes to periods, there is a textbook definition of normal – but then there is also what a normal period looks like for you.
For some (lucky) people, these definitions overlap; for others, they don’t.
The NHS recognises a ‘normal period’ as losing between 30 and 60ml, or six to eight teaspoonfuls, each month. A ‘heavy’ period’ is anything more than 80ml.
Another, arguably simpler, way of working out whether your period is heavy is to count the number of pads or tampons you use.
Having to change a pad or tampon every one to two hours, or emptying a menstrual cup more often than is recommended, is a sign your period is heavy.
An NHS test can also help reveal whether your periods are heavy and if it’s worth seeing your GP.
Dr Fran Yarlett, GP and medical director at The Lowdown, said: “Heavy periods can be normal for some people.
“But if your periods have changed and become heavier, this can signify medical problems.” This could be:
- Early-stage cervical cancer
- Fibroids (non-cancerous growths that develop in or around the womb)
- Perimenopause (the time during which your body makes the natural transition to menopause)
- Hypothyroidism (when the thyroid doesn’t produce enough hormones
- Endometriosis (tissue similar to that in the womb grows in other areas of the body)
