What is the Dyson Wash G1?
This is Dyson’s wet floor cleaner, on sale since summer 2024 and designed to remove stains, spills and small debris from hard floors. There are quite a few hard floor cleaners on the market now, combining suction, washing and drying functions with varying degrees of success. Dyson’s is the best we’ve tried so far.
It’s distinct from their V15s Detect Submarine, which is a wet/dry cleaner with interchangeable heads for carpets and furniture as well as hard floors. The Wash G1 does not clean carpet. (Check out our guide to the best carpet cleaners if that’s what you need.) Nor does it work as a vacuum cleaner. It’s specifically for kitchens, bathrooms and other hard surfaces and as such is pretty simple to operate.
How we test wet floor cleaners
The most important test, clearly, is how well it cleans. For this we test the floor cleaner on wet mess such as fresh mud, spilled coffee and sticky food like jam and mustard. We also test its ability to remove old, dried-on stains like tea, dried mud and water marks.
The second test is for usability – how heavy and noisy the cleaner is, how easy it is to fill, empty and push around and how intuitive the controls are.
Next comes ease of setup, storage and maintenance. No-one wants complicated, bulky appliances cluttering up the place and leaving drips.
Finally come battery life – how long the appliance takes to charge and how long the charge lasts – and any special features. If it has an app, we’ll test that as well as any other functions in addition to basic cleaning.
Here’s how the Dyson Wash G1 fared in our tests…
