Who’s joining Julia Roberts on “Panic Carefully,” her follow-up with “Leave The World Behind” director Sam Esmail? Deadline reports Elizabeth Olsen is the first to join Roberts on the thriller’s cast list. Esmail writes the film’s script along with directing, with the outlet describing it as a paranoid thriller in the veins of “Mr. Robot” and “Silence Of The Lambs.” Shooting starts in England this January.

However, an official logline and plot details for “Panic Carefully” remain under wraps. There’s not a lot out there on the project in general, only that Warner Bros. outbid a slew of other studios and streamers for it by promising a theatrical run. That’s something “Leave The World Behind” didn’t receive, as it went straight to Netflix last November. Not that Esmail’s previous film with Roberts needed theaters to gain an audience: it now ranks #5 on Netflix’s most streaming English-language films of all time, at 143.4 million views.
Esmail also leads producers on “Panic Carefully” with Chad Hamilton via Email Corp., along with Roberts, Scott Stuber, Marisa Yeres Gill, and Lisa Gillan. Kevin McCormick and Chrystal Li oversee the film for Warner Bros.
Olsen adds “Panic Carefully” to a list of upcoming projects that includes the A24 film “Eternity,” a rom-com she stars in with Miles Teller and Callum Turner. “The Assessment,” a sci-fi drama with Alicia Vikander, also hits theaters next year after its world premiere at TIFF in September. Also on the way for Olsen: a voice cameo in the Marvel Disney+ animated series “Marvel Zombies,” which premieres on the straemer in October 2025.
As for “Panic Carefully,” expect a few more big names added to its cast list before production gets underway in January. Expect Esmail’s next feature in theaters sometime in 2026.
