Every Movie Coming to Prime Video in October 2024

While other streaming services are gearing up with original and old horror content flooding the platforms to help celebrate a month-long terror-fueled viewing, Prime Video is staying pretty quiet this month, particularly regarding movies. The platform offers two new original films, with House of Spoils doing all the heavy lifting for horror content for the month, and Max Barbakow’s latest comedy, Brothers, comes to the platform backed by an all-star cast. Finally, the Zendeya-led steamy drama Challengers finally makes its way to streaming. Other movies being added to the platform for the month include Knox Goes Away and the Prime Original movie Canary Black.

There may not be much on offer, but Prime Video has delivered three solid features guaranteed to entertain, whether you are a fan of romance, horror, or comedy. Here are the three movies added to Amazon’s streaming service this month and what you need to know before you check them out for yourself.

Challengers (2024)

Streaming on October 1

Challengers presents a complex and long-spanning romantic drama centered around a love triangle involving three tennis players: Tashi, Art, and Patrick. The movie spans 13 years of their respective careers, from young hopefuls trying to climb the ranks to later career troubles, a marriage, and Tashi stepping into the role of coach, bringing up old wounds that lead to Art and Patrick fighting with each other as they settle their rivalry on the court.

The perfect mix of sports action and romance-fueled drama, Challengers is a crowd and critic pleaser, currently sitting at 88% fresh by critics and 73% on the Popcornmeter on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie acts as a highlight for the young career of Zendaya, whose climb from Disney star to distinguished actor has marked an impressive career trajectory. Zendaya stars alongside Mike Faist as Art and Josh O’Connor as Partick.

Challengers is a welcome addition to the Prime Video catalog for those looking for a well-constructed drama with emotional depth backed by a phenomenal cast. With Luca Guadagnino at the helm, known for his work on Call Me by Your Name, Suspiria, and Bones and All, expectations were always high for the film, and for many, those expectations were exceeded. Challengers is now streaming on Prime Video.

House of Spoils (2024)

Streaming on October 3

House of Spoils is a supernatural horror film that follows the ominous events surrounding an unnamed chef (Ariana DeBose) whose career takes a sharp turn when she leaves her five-star restaurant to open her own farm-to-table establishment in a picturesque remote rural home. However, with the kitchen in chaos, the chef begins to experience strange occurrences, and within her food, she keeps seeing insects appearing and mold growing. As the unnamed chef learns of the estate’s history and the rumors that a witch once inhabited it, she must fight to keep her culinary perfection while battling the supernatural.

Part of Prime Video’s continued collaboration with Blumhouse productions, House of Spoils follows the platform’s trend of originals from the famous horror production company in that early reviews show a mixed reaction. Still, during a month when horror reigns supreme, the food-centric supernatural horror thriller may satiate those cravings for terror. Regardless, the movie has a charismatic and talented lead, the history-making Ariana DeBose, whose work includes West Side Story and Hamilton; it will be exciting to see how she adapts her skills to the horror genre. House of Spoils is streaming on Oct. 3.

Brothers (2024)

Streaming on October 17

Thinking he has given up the life of a career criminal, Moke (Josh Brolin) is dragged back into the world of crime when he reunites with his twin brother, Jady (Peter Dinklage), who is asking for his help. Together, they embark on a dangerous road trip full of gunfights and other cutthroat criminals and authorities to pull off a heist. However, the biggest threat to the two might be each other as they are forced to reconcile their past.

Brothers is the anticipated follow-up to Max Barbakow’s fan-favorite comedy outing for Prime in Palm Springs. Add in the fact that writer Etan Cohen, known for such classics as Idiocracy and Tropic Thunder, and fans can be assured the comedy will be witty and highly quotable. Already showing his command of the genre and working alongside an all-star cast including Josh Brolin, Peter Dinklage, Glenn Close, Marisa Tomei, and Brendan Fraser, it will surely be a crowd-pleaser when it releases. Brothers is streaming on Oct. 17.
