Every Movie Coming to Shudder in December 2024

You mention horror, and we hear “Shudder,” which is not that surprising given how amazing the streaming service is. Founded in 2015, Shudder has long been the best platform for horror fanatics, with its seamless addition of new films and TV shows every month, ranging from psychological thrillers to supernatural horrors.

Additionally, Shudder has lately begun to offer original content, which is why there is no better streaming service when it comes to watching horror. Having said that, like with every other month, the streamer intends to end the year with some of the best it has to offer, whether it’s a recently released slasher thriller or a mind-bending psychological horror from the 1990s. To that end, here’s every movie coming to Shudder in December 2024.

A Creature Was Stirring (2023)

Streaming December 1

A Creature Was Stirring is an upcoming horror film written by Shannon Wells and directed by Damien LeVeck that stars Connor Paolo, Annalise Basso, Chrissy Metz, and Scout Taylor-Compton. In the film, Faith is a hardworking nurse with a troubled past who lives with her daughter, Charm. One stormy night, two strangers, Kory and Liz, a brother and sister, let themselves in, hoping to find refuge from the downpours. However, the uninvited guests get more than they bargained for when they find Charm’s unusual behavior and frequent suicidal tendencies. Will they be able to make it out alive? Or are they stuck in a place where they can never leave? A Creature Was Stirring will be released on Shudder on December 1, 2024.

Village of the Damned (1995)

Streaming December 1

Directed by John Carpenter, Village of the Damned is often regarded as one of the filmmaker’s weakest films, but after all these years, we realize that it contains some of the best old-school storytelling. The film is a remake of the 1960 film of the same name, which itself was adapted from John Wyndham’s 1957 novel The Midwich Cuckoos.

From the scariest and the most intelligent to the historically important, violently gory, and utterly awesome, these are the best horror movies.

The story takes place in the village of Midwich, where the residents and animals all faint at the same moment and wake up out of the blue, but mysteriously, all the women in the village become pregnant. Nine months later, the babies are born and grow up to become lovely children, but it doesn’t take long for the parents to realize that they are not human. Village of the Damned will be added to Shudder beginning Dec. 1.

Dead Calm (1989)

Streaming December 1

Dead Calm is one of those rare horror gems that is slow-burn and well-acted, leaving viewers on the edge of their seats. While it leans toward psychological horror, most of the violence in the film is implied, leading the audience to assume the worst. Directed by Philip Noyce, the film features a star-studded cast, including Nicole Kidman, Sam Neil, and Billy Zane. The official synopsis for Dead Calm is as follows:

Rae Ingram (Nicole Kidman) and her husband, John (Sam Neill), struggle to overcome the sudden death of their young son. In an attempt to move past their loss, the couple take their yacht out for an extended vacation trip. While far out at sea, they come across a sinking schooner and rescue the ship’s sole survivor, Hughie Warriner (Billy Zane). Hughie claims the crew of the ship died from food poisoning. Though Rae is empathetic towards Hughie, John is suspicious of his story.

Dead Calm, released in 1989, will be available for streaming on Shudder on Dec. 1.

Last Straw (2023)

Streaming December 20

Working night shifts may seem somewhat peaceful as they involve less social interaction, but this is not the case in Last Straw, a forthcoming slasher horror film directed by Alan Scott Neal. Starring Jessica Belkin, the film follows Nancy Osborn, a dedicated waitress who works the night shift at her father’s diner, as she is preparing to become a manager.
