TUGUEGARAO CITY — Retired Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Edgar Aglipay officially filed his certificate of candidacy (CoC) for governor of Cagayan on Monday (Oct. 7) at around 10:30 a.m.

The 76-year-old Aglipay has teamed up with outgoing three-term Governor Manuel Mamba, who is seeking the vice governorship.

The former police general served as PNP chief from August 24, 2004 to March 14, 2005.

“This isn’t for me. It’s for the province. We aim to unite with ‘One Cagayan,’” Aglipay, a native of Camalaniugan town, told reporters.

Both Aglipay and Mamba are running under the Nacionalista Party.

They are joined by their allies who are running for a seat in Congress:

Lal-lo Mayor Florante Pascual (1st District), Allacapan Mayor Harry Florida (2nd District), and former Rep. Randolph Ting (3rd District).

Aglipay will be up against incumbent three-term Vice Governor Melvin Vargas Jr. of the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas and Dr. Zarah Lara of the Nationalist People’s Coalition.

The two candidates filed their CoCs for governor on October 2.
