Victoria Beckham got a bit too personal for some fans when she promoted her new perfume, Portofino ’97 Eau de Parfum, on Instagram.
The former Spice Girl, 50, shared two throwback photos alongside husband David Beckham, 49, from a trip to Italy in 1997. “Portofino in 1997 was a very, very romantic trip. I remember how excited I was there to be there with David for the first time. The intensity of the two of us being together that 48 hours really was amazing… Kisses @DavidBeckham @VictoriaBeckhamBeauty,” she captioned the touchy photos of the pair on the water. The first is a candid shot that shows Victoria smiling as she tousles David’s hair, while the second is more posed, with both smiling for the camera.
The photos quickly made it onto X (formerly known as Twitter) where fans dished about the spicy caption. “This horny caption I’m uncomfortable,” one X user wrote, while another compared it to the moment in Legally Blonde when Elle Woods (Reese Witherspoon) asks if ex Warner (Matthew Davis) remembers “those four amazing hours we spent in the hot tub after Winter Formal.”
And it seems that is exactly what the Victoria Beckham Beauty founder had intended. The official website description of the perfume teases, “A new infatuation. A secret escape. The seductive scent of desire,” and calls it an “ode” to the very trip pictured in the Instagram photos.
Another fan pointed out that it’s not the only fragrance inspired by a saucy rendezvous. “At least two of her three fragrance descriptions are super horny lol,” an X user commented, sharing screenshots of perfume descriptions for San Ysidro and Suite 302. The latter is quite literally named after a favorite hotel suite of the couple, and is described as “a deep and confident love, wrapped up in the sumptuous memory of Victoria and David’s whirlwind anniversary trips to Paris.”
Not everyone was left uncomfortable, however, as many fans took to X to celebrate the longtime couple’s love. One X user wrote, “They’re so obsessed with each other. I need it like them!” Victoria and David met in 1997 at one of his Manchester United soccer matches, but it didn’t take long for a quick greeting to turn into private chats in the players’ lounge and exchanging numbers, and by January 1998, the two were engaged.
