Fans spot monumental flag blunder at Olympics opening ceremony

The Paris 2024 opening ceremony has ended in embarrassing fashion.

While Canadian singer Celine Dion and some late pyrotechnics rescued the marathon (and at times tedious) event, another epic fail was to follow.

The final act for the ceremony is to hoist the Olympic flag up the flagpole for the rings to hang in all their glory.

But in a classic case of ‘you had one bloody job’, they stuffed it up.

In a monumental opening ceremony blunder, the flag was upside down at the key moment.

Social media went into meltdown when the error was spotted.

“Sums up this opening ceremony so far,” one observer said on X (formerly Twitter).

“Everything about that opening ceremony was upside down… 🤦🏻‍♀️” another said.
