Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 1: Hunters is here, bringing Japanese-themed POIs and mechanics to the game. As seen in its trailer, this new season will bring parkour moves, new weapons, an updated map, and many giant monsters like Godzilla. The season brings a fresh perspective to the battle royale after a music-themed season, and there’s plenty to get excited about in the coming weeks.
Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 1 Demon Hunters Battle Pass
A new season means a new battle pass, and this time it’s a full-length one following the shorter pass in Fortnite Remix. The new pass is available for 1000 V-Bucks and includes seven unique skins, followed by an extra one in January. Which one’s that? You guessed it – the Godzilla Evolved Outfit, available from Battle Pass quests. The new battle pass will expire on February 21, 2025.
Chapter 6 Map Gets Japan-Inspired Environments
The new Fortnite island is, like the rest of the season, inspired by Japanese architecture and terrain. There are plenty of biomes packed in this map, with everything from a dojo to a seaport city to the Great Turtle’s spot. There’s a good mix of modern architecture and natural landscapes this season.
Traditional Weapons Are Hitscan
All weapons in this season are hitscan, meaning factors such as projectile travel time and bullet drop are removed from the equation. Those who complete Expertise Quests with specific weapons can earn XP and buy Legendary versions of the same item from NPCs on the map.
New Weapons, Vehicles and Masks of Power
Of course, there are plenty of new weapons being added this season. Here are some of the new weapons in Fortnite Demon Hunters:
- Holo Twister Assault Rifle
- Fury Assault Rifle
- Veiled Precision SMG
- Surgefire SMG
- Sentinel Pump
- Twinfire Auto Shotgun
- Oni Shotgun
- Typhoon Blade (melee, consumes less stamina while sprinting)
Beating lesser demons scattered around the map will drop masks of power, which grant buffs to different types of weapons. Two of these have been revealed:
- Fire Oni Mask – launch homing flame projectiles
- Void Oni Mask – grant teleport ability
There are also two new vehicles you can use this season: the Rogue Bike and the Void Burn.
Fortnite Gets Elemental Sprites
There are many elemental sprites, i.e. living manifestations of magic, to be found around the island. These sprites will provide unique elemental effects once collected:
- Air Sprites – create an updraft wind vortex and cause environmental damage
- Water Sprites – throw to create a healing fountain
- Earth Sprites – consumes items you feed them and give a reward in exchange
You can also gain powerful boons if you bring a sprite to the Sprite Shrines. Alternatively, you can get boons from defeating bosses and some can be found in chests. Here are some of the boons:
- Fire Boon – reload weapons
- Void Boon – reveals nearby players eliminating someone
- Wind Boon – movement speed is increased when the Pickaxe is equipped
- Water Boon – swimming grants Health and Shields to players and squadmates
Parkour Movement Features
It wouldn’t be a Japanese-themed season without some slick new movement mechanics. As seen in the gameplay trailer, players can now chain different movesets to be more agile on the battlefield. Here are four new movement mechanics in this season:
- Ledge Jump – jump while sprinting very close to a ledge to get a boost
- Roll Landing – holding or tapping jump before hitting the ground to initiate a barrel roll and restore stamina
- Wall Kick – jump when hitting a while to perform a wall kick, pushing you in the opposite direction
- Wall Scramble – jumping toward a wall will make your character automatically scramble upwards, which you can combine with wall kicks for momentum
New Build Feature: Simple Edit
New Fortnite players can rest easy knowing they won’t have to rack their brains in the build mode. A new option called Simple Edit can be toggled in the settings for automatically executing building edits based on a part of the building you’re looking at.
New Fortnite Bosses
This season will see players battle against large bosses such as Shogun X and Night Rose, who will drop medallions after being defeated. These medallions will grant passive buffs that last until the end of the match. For example, defeating Shogun X drops the Wanderer Medallion, which grants infinite stamina and invisibility while sprinting. Defeating Night Rose drops the Night Rose Medallion which enables automatic weapon reloads.
Fortnite is available on PC, mobile and consoles.
