Francois Letexier to referee Spain vs England in Euro 2024 final

Francois Letexier will referee Sunday’s European Championship final between Spain and England.

The 35-year-old Frenchman has taken charge of three matches at this summer’s tournament: Spain’s victory over Georgia in the last 16 and Denmark’s draw with Serbia and Croatia’s draw with Albania in the group stage.

He was also fourth official for the Euro 2024 opening match between Germany and Scotland, but his appointment to the final is his first at the tournament since the round of 16.

Letexier will be assisted by compatriots Cyril Mugnier and Mehdi Rahmouni while Szymon Marciniak, who refereed the 2022 World Cup final and 2023 Champions League final, has been appointed as the fourth official.

Letexier has been an international referee since 2017 and took charge of the 2023 UEFA Super Cup final between Manchester City and Sevilla.

He was also the fourth official at last season’s Champions League final between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund.

Spain beat France to secure their place in the final on Tuesday and they were joined by England on Wednesday after Gareth Southgate’s side’s victory over the Netherlands.

Spain won successive European Championship titles in 2008 and 2012, while England have never won the competition, having lost to Italy in the final three years earlier.

Sunday’s final takes place at the Olympiastadion in Berlin.
