“Whoever saves a life is as though they had saved all mankind.”

Contrary to common belief, and despite his characterization as a villain, Galactus is more a force of nature than he is a heartless god. Galan of Taa was chosen to transcend his multiverse’s death and be reborn into the next as Galactus, the Devourer of Worlds. As Galactus, who has been cursed with an insatiable hunger, his cosmic role is to keep the multiverse balanced. Infinite creation leads to inevitable incursion events, which Galactus has been charged to prevent through his hunger. However, Galactus understands the devastation of his powers and tries his best to resist the urges until he can’t.

The Devourer has held on as long as possible, but he has grown famished and is on the verge of death. Knowing that Kamala knows how to wield cosmic powers, and has a genuine heart of gold toward all living things, including Galactus, Steve Rogers asks her to stand in as Galactus’s Herald to help him find a safe planet to consume. Kamala agrees, not only wishing to spare Earth of Galactus’ hunger, but to help the cosmic god as well. Confiding in Spider-Man, she notes, “Whoever saves a life is as though they had saved all mankind.”

Ms. Marvel Will Always Be a Hero, With or Without Her Costume

Kamala stands up to Galactus

Ms. Marvel has always effortlessly stepped up to her role as a hero. It’s something she wanted, and it’s something she continues to work toward. In many ways, she is one of the most genuine and honestly innocent characters in Marvel’s menagerie of heroes. To be tasked with a duty that she knows could spell certain death for an entire planet is a heavy burden to bear, but one that she finds a way to balance. Galactus’ most noble Heralds always tend to be his favorite, and that certainly includes Ms. Marvel.
