Guillermo del Toro Is Worried a Ghost Might Be Haunting Him in Aberdeen Hotel Room

Guillermo del Toro loves spooky stuff. Of course he does. The dude made Pan’s Labyrinth, Crimson Peak, and The Devil’s Backbone. Have you seen his house? This man lives for the supernatural (sexy or otherwise.) del Toro is currently in my country, Scotland, filming his adaptation of Frankensteim with Oscar Isaac and Mia Goth. He’s camped out in Aberdeen and asked to stay in the ‘most haunted’ room in the hotel. One of his producers had stayed in it and said ‘odd electrical and physical occurrences scared her into leaving asap.’

del Toro is keeping us all up to date on Twitter.

He doesn’t seem to have encountered any aggressive Aberdonian spirits yet (hey, it’s the weekend, just have a night on the town and get the drinks in.) But he has said that ‘the atmosphere in the room is oppressive and I am not gonna spend much more time there.’ I can relate. Who hasn’t spent the night in a hotel with bad vibes? I’ve been in easyHotels. Total nightmare. The toilet and shower were basically on top of one another.

His experiments came up empty but the crushing ‘oppressive vibe’ of the room is still weighing on Guillermo’s mind. Come on, ghost, let Guillermo be your friend.

Scotland is a proudly weird and spooky country. Every major town or city has at least one ghost that’s trying to ruin our lives. I grew up in a town like that. This is our version of ‘try that in a small town’: try having to be haunted by scorned women, burned witches, plague victims, and fallen soldiers. So, it’s not hard to see why Guillermo would feel at home here (the weather’s even pretty decent right now!)

Perhaps the ghost will turn up at the wrap party. If all else fails, del Toro should come to Dundee and check out our ghosts. Come on, Guillermo, I’ll give the tour!
