Harley Quinn Cosplayer Proves Her Jester Suit Can Absolutely Work in The DCU

Harley Quinn has donned many costumed looks since her inception as a DC Comics character, with her jester suit being her first and most recognizable set of spandex that fans can’t get enough of. Wearing this red and black outfit off and on over the years (depending on what Harley’s mindset was at the time), a new cosplay has brought Harley’s harlequin design to vivid life, proving that it can easily work in DC’s rebooted film universe.

Shared on Instagram by Amanda (@pixiequinncosplay), this creator has dressed as multiple versions of Harley Quinn before, ranging from Enrico Marini’s unique comic redesign to Margot Robbie’s iteration of the character to a Lady Gaga-inspired Joker: Folie à Deux design, and more.

Also creating other custom costumes that see Amanda step into the roles of Marvel’s Spider-Gwen, Black Widow, and Black Cat, as well as DC’s Batgirl, multiple versions of Catwoman, Queen Mera, and even a badass Red Lantern Supergirl, each new design seems to find ways to top the last, with this particular Harley Quinn look being no exception.

Harley Quinn Dons Her Original Jester Costume Once Again in Inspired Cosplay Image

A costume with two origins — one from Harley’s debut in Batman: The Animated Series, and one from her first in-continuity comic appearance in 1999’s Batman: Harley Quinn #1Harley’s black and red jester suit marked her time working for and being in a relationship with the Joker, with Harley barely wearing the outfit after she liberated herself from Mr. J’s influence. Given a blink-and-you-missed-it cameo in the DCEU’s Suicide Squad film, this costume, outside of the cosplay community, hasn’t been seen in the real world since, with Amanda’s take on it being hands down one of the best.

Photographed by @wdlee00, Amanda stands with a slight smirk and palpable mischievousness in her stare, her platinum blonde pigtails, pale clown make-up, bright red lipstick, and subtle black diamond-shaped designs under her eyes effectively bringing Harley’s signature look to life in a convincing way. Dressed in a sleek red and black jester bodysuit ripped right from the comics, Amanda strikes a pose that comes across as playful yet poised, no doubt a calculated misdirect used to lower her enemy’s guard for a devastating follow-up attack — something that would make the real Harleen Quinzel proud.

Harley Quinn’s Iconic Jester Look Deserves a Second Live-Action Chance in the DCU

Amanda doesn’t wear the harlequin headdress that Harley does in the comics but her hair still mimics that design, making this choice an inspired creative liberty that works well for Amanda’s cosplay and does justice to this iconic wardrobe detail in a completely different way. It may be a while before the DCU finds a new Harley — or better yet, brings Margot Robbie back for the role — but thanks to Amanda (@pixiequinncosplay), it’s clear that no matter who becomes Harley Quinn next, her jester design is a costume that she needs to end up wearing.
