A 9News crew has been caught in the middle of an alleged stolen car joyride.
After spotting a balaclava-wearing teenager driving at speed in a sports car near Logan, south of Brisbane, the reporter alerted police.
The 9News car was mere metres from the alleged criminal when crews saw him driving dangerously on the M1 just before 7am today then on Logan Road.
The 17-year-old eventually slipped into an Eight Mile Plains home where he was cornered by police.
Switching headgear into a broad-brimmed hat, his phone and cash was confiscated and he was led into the back of the waiting van.
The car was taken for forensic testing.
The alleged robbery was so fresh, it hadn’t even been reported to police, until 9News called Triple-Zero.
The car was stolen from a family in Kurab, Brisbane. Police say the teenager broke in while they slept.
But his joyride lasted just a few hours.
The victim was glad to have his car swiftly back in safe hands, saying he was “thankful” to 9News.
The 17-year-old hasn’t yet been charged.
Nine News understands he’s well known to authorities as a repeat offender who regularly breaches his bail conditions.
